heaven

many may wonder. what would stairs to heaven look like? well my dear friends i believe that i may have very well found the closest thing to stairs to heaven. (non truth- that i found it) and they are found right out side of the tunnel near KANEOHE. 3922 steps lead up up the cliff to a peak of about 2,800 feet giving you one of the best views of the whole entire island.

o i forgot to mention..these stairs leading to heaven..well it's quite illegal to climb them. but of course, being in college and just wanting to have a good time, we disregard the law and shake our tail feathers.
it's three and the morning and josh coon gives me a call. no answer i'm out cold. it's three in the morning and josh coon is in my room waking me up. it's cold outside. i don't wanna leave my warm house but all my hiking gear (water jackets and some snacks) are packed in a old palomar backpack. i guess it's now or never. so i get changed and head over to the boys house. i am astonished i'm up, even more surprisingly i'm functioning properly.

so we get to the base of the hike at 3 40 ish. no one brought flash lights but that's alright because it's a clear night and although it's only a half moon there is pently of light to see the path in front of you. we hike through a bamboo forest. i've never been in a bamboo forest before, it was neat. i can tell that this is going to be a hike for the books... after the bamboo we come to the stairs... all 3922 of them. it's still dark, but you can still see the out lines of the wonderus mountain range. it's beautiful. keeping an eye on every step praying not to fall it's all up. then we get to the first platform. the steepest and hardest part is over.pwefff. but we're only half way there.
at only half way the view is still amazing. time for some pictures. Kaneohe is lit up at 445 in the morning. at an elevation of about 1500 its starting to get cold. the winds pretty strong. time to put on the first jacket. much better. and now back to climbing. there were a couple more look outs and then we were at the top. there's an abandoned building with a lot of graffiti. the winds bitter cold at the top. we have 30 minutes till sunrise. we take pictures in this building to pass the time.

(so i didn't get much sleeppp)

(from the top. the trip down.)
the sun wasn't up but the area was lit up from it's glow. i could see the stairs now. and the mountain. i was scared. i didn't want to go down. parts of the stairs was going up a straight ladder. there were also parts when the mountain was so steep that it was a straight drop on both sides. coming up ment going down. and as i went down i held onto the rail twice as hard. and now that there was light i could also take pictures to document the abundance of stairs.
(we started to go down before the sun rose..but it was beautiful)
(almost down coming down..there's some people going up)
(the last stretch of stairs.)

so i did it. and it was wonderful.
hope you enjoyed seeing the journey.
